Snap Grid

In order to ease precise piece movements, move distances can be constrained to discrete values. The snap grid size can be chosen coarse for rapid brick positionning or finer for precise adjustments.

Tip: This grid constrains move distances, not pieces positions.

Because bricks are higher than they are wide (the height of a brick is 6/5 of the distance between studs), the snap grid size can have different values in the Z direction and in the X/Y directions. But of course you can choose to have grid sizes equal in all directions. This is useful for Technic modelling or for SNOT constructions (Stud Not On Top).

The grid sizes are displayed on the right end of the status bar. If you click in this area, a pop-up menu appears, allowing easy modifications of the grid sizes. Select a value in the left column of this menu to change X/Y values, in the right column to modify Z step size.

You can also change grid size using keyboard shortcuts. Default keys are 0, 1 ... 9 for X/Y sizes, Shift + Cntrl + 0, 1 ... 9 for Z sizes.

Tip: The "3D Snap Toggle" button of the main toolbar allows to enable or disable snapping action selectively without changing grids.
